| | Standard CMMI Appraisal Method for Process Improvement (SCAMPI)
Unless you measure your organization's process strengths and weaknesses, you will not know where to focus your process improvement efforts. The CMMI is used to focus your attention on proven software, hardware and systems engineering best practices. The appraisal method to measure against the CMMI model is
called the Standard CMMI Appraisal Method for Process Improvement
(SCAMPI).
We have a full range of CMMI appraisal services to meet any of your process measurement
needs.
Key Benefits
 |
Knowing where you stand in your process improvement effort is a key factor to your
successful program. Use our appraisal services to create a baseline in order to
make plans for your process improvement initiative covering singly or in any combination of
software, hardware, and systems engineering.

 |
One size does not fit all. We have three appraisal/assessment methods to fit your immediate
needs. Please see the descriptions below.
|
Capabilities
- SCAMPI Type A Formal Appraisals, V1.2 (Standard CMMI Appraisal Method for Process Improvement)
-
- This CMMI-based appraisal is a formal method authorized by the Software Engineering
Institute (SEI). This formal method (type A) requires an SEI trained certified lead appraiser to head an appraisal team at your site. The appraisal team typically consists of a team formed
from your internal staff. That way the results are known and owned by your
organization. These results baseline your "next steps" process
improvements. This method may be used early in the process improvement initiative
and as a way of monitoring your improvement progress. We are
authorized to conduct development appraisals for one discipline or any combination of software, hardware, or systems engineering. We can also use the staged or
continuous model representation for each appraisal. Maturity ratings results are typically given for each appraisal, although it is optional and your decision. Synchro PP&T is authorized to conduct all types of SCAMPIs. The formal SCAMPI appraisals use the models CMMI for Development and CMMI for Services, both V1.2.
-
- High Maturity SCAMPI Type A Formal Appraisals, V1.2
-
- This CMMI-based appraisal is the same formal method as the one above except it is conducted by certified high maturity lead appraisers (HMLA). SCAMPI appraisals in the level-4 or level-5 area are required to have a HMLA conduct it.
-
- SCAMPI Type B and C Appraisals
-
- These CMMI-based appraisals are a more informal method than the formal type A SCAMPI and is also authorized by the SEI. Type B and C appraisals require an SEI trained lead appraiser and requires less activities than the type A. The appraisal documentation is reported to the SEI at completion. The SCAMPI B is less formal than the SCAMPI A and the SCAMPI C is less formal than the SCAMPI B. No maturity ratings are given for SCAMPI B or C appraisals.
-
- Mini-appraisal
-
- This is also a CMMI-based appraisal, but at a more affordable price and has no SEI reporting requirements. In a more
informal manner the appraisal team (with a lead appraiser) assesses the organization's processes and reports
results comparable to the formal appraisals, i.e. the organization under appraisal receives an identification of their process improvement opportunities. This method is mostly used as a first
time appraisal to start the process improvement initiative and then when progress is made
over a period of time, a formal appraisal (SCAMPI A) is used to formally declare a maturity rating
of level 2, 3, 4, or 5 for the staged model or capability ratings of level 0 through
5 for the continuous model. It may also be used as a cost-effective improvement monitoring
tool.
-
- Project Assessment
-
- Use this method to teach your project leaders to monitor their own progress. This
method is a type of mini-assessment described above with a project/organization focus
rather than only an organizational approach. The project assessment tool used is
left with the organization for internal self-assessment use.
